Regency

Ballrooms, drawing rooms and the long social season. The regency collection puts half the shop in empire-waist gowns and flowered hats and the other half in tailcoats and cravats, painted in dusty pinks, sage and gold. The most formal set here, and the funniest for it: the costume is immaculate, the dog is still a dog.

The regency palette and the rooms it suits

Dusty pink, sage, champagne and gold on warm paper. Softer than it sounds: the colours came out closer to a faded portrait than to anything loud. It suits a bedroom, a dressing room, a hallway with a mirror in it, and any room where the furniture is older than the tenant. The gold catches warm bulbs and brass frames particularly well.

A few of the dogs wearing regency

The Bulldog wears burgundy with a pocket watch chain and has claimed the chair nearest the fire. The Chihuahua is in champagne silk, holding court, six pounds of opinion. The Beagle has a monocle that has clearly never been needed. The Poodle is groomed to a standard that plainly requires staff. The Siberian Husky is in a top hat with both eyes on the open door.

Where regency prints have ended up

The set that suits people who like a bit of ceremony. It works as a wedding or engagement present, it works for anyone who reads a lot of period fiction, and a pair of them either side of a doorway reads as a proper portrait wall rather than a novelty print.

Who the regency collection is aimed at

If you spent a winter on Bridgerton, Sanditon or the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice, this is the collection cut from that cloth. Same season, same ballrooms, considerably more fur.
